Madalena Matos

She completed a bachelor’s degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology at NOVA University of Lisbon and a master’s degree in Applied Microbiology at Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon. In 2021, she joined the iBB laboratory on “Physiological Genomics and Diversity of Yeasts for Sustainable Bioeconomy” to develop her master’s thesis entitled “Exploiting natural and artificial diversity of plasma membrane efflux pumps towards improved cell factories for biorefineries”. After getting the Master’s degree, she continued working in the laboratory, under the supervision of Professor Isabel Sá-Correia, to further deepen knowledge and experience in working with yeasts in the context of the molecular response and tolerance to organic acids. Since June 2023 to date, she is a member of the “Blue Bioeconomy Pact” research team, working within the scope of “Algae Vertical” and the “Portuguese Blue BioBank”. She is isolating, molecularly identifying and phenotypically characterizing yeasts associated with industrial algae cultures and curating the IST-Yeasts CC.
